3D Character Charger Collection

Overview

This project looks at what happens when you mix everyday electronics with collectible toy design. I developed this concept as an internal, exploratory project during my time at my former job. The goal was to take the general concept of a robot-style charging plug and create something completely new and original within that same space. This case study shows my direct role in the process: from the initial ideas and form development to the final 3D visuals, colors, and finishes.

BASE PRODUCT EXPLORATION

01

My starting point for this project was an existing robot-style USB-C wall charger that had a simple shape and removable feet. My task during this exploratory phase was to look closely at its physical shape, but instead of just expanding on it, I wanted to use that trend to design something completely new, fun, and original. I used it as a benchmark to figure out how I could steer the concept in a totally fresh, toy-inspired direction to see where the product family could go next.

FORM FACTOR DEVELOPMENT

02

Using the original product dimensions as a baseline, I worked on creating a single, shared character body for the new line. I engineered this foundational silhouette to keep the exact same shapes, modular foot attachments, and functional technical details as the original device so everything would fit perfectly.

CHARACTERS CONCEPT SYSTEM

03

Next, I took that base body and built a whole lineup of profession-based characters. The big idea here was to take something as simple as an everyday wall charger and turn it into a completely new kind of product - something that isn't just highly useful, but also incredibly attractive and fun. I wanted to design a utility object with so much personality and charm that it instantly catches your eye, makes a great gift, and naturally encourages customers to collect more than just one character. These final high-fidelity renders show the collection from different angles, highlighting the plug setup, the line splits, and how the modular feet pull away.

Project Context & Disclaimer

I developed this collection during my time as a professional employee as part of an exploratory product concept. Sadly, the company has since closed its doors, and the project remained entirely at the design and visualization stage. To the best of my knowledge, these designs were never actually manufactured or released to the public.

I am sharing this work strictly to show my personal contributions to the project, specifically my skills in 3D visualization, form development, character creation, and visual systems. Displaying this work does not mean I own the original commercial concept, any active product rights, or that I am involved in any future commercialization.
